When we want to have any relationship or want to express emotion, we will use language to express. That’s the first way we think about, and using language is an important way to pass on our thought. Using language we can get closer to other people or isolate other people; we can make other people be happy or be angry. Language can very easily affect the emotion, which means use language we can change a relationship easily. When we want to have relationship with someone, this process needs a lot of factors but the language is the most important factor. Especially when you fall in love with someone, you will try your best to express your feeling by language; using language to make touching promises.
For different relationship we use different language, for different area we also use different language. So what role does language play in different area? Most of people may remember these words: mathematical language, scientific language, etc. From this we already can know the language was used is different in different area.
For Mathematics and Science, the language we are using specialized language, which is terminology. For these areas’ essay, we required terminology; the language needs to be professional. Professional language can make the knowledge become specialized, professional. In these areas, the language was used in certain way. Every theory and knowledge is fixed. If you want to say a theory, a pattern, or anything, you need to prove it rigorously and accurately without any mistake, and at the same time it must be logical. A minor mistake can make a huge mistake, same with language. I think a lot of people have that kind of experience: you use a similar word instead of the original one in these exams, the examiner judge it as wrong due to it lacks of accuracy. That should shows how important that the language plays in this area. Then to what extent, does the language affect the accuracy of the knowledge?
In History and Ethics, the language also plays really important in these two areas, but in these areas, there is not a lot terminology required. You just need to use suitable words to describe the event correctly, don’t need to be absolutely correct. Why does language don’t need to be that accurate? The main reason is you can’t judge the situation certainly, there are always depends exist. Economics is also have a lot of ‘depend’ situation exist, but it has theories to explain. History and Ethics are different, there is not tons of theory exist. Most of times is to explain an event, or the relationship between different factors or events, but if you chose an unsuitable language, it will change the relationship into totally different one. Also, when you are recording a historical or ethical events, if you chose a different words, the fact will change to completely different. To what extent, the language will affect the history? Depending on the language you chose, the history can be completely different, which may change the shared knowledge and finally it will change one7s memory.
